The work, and how each piece was made.
I started writing in college. Mostly paid in exposure, occasionally in actual money, usually research and pitches for one business to another.
By 2009 it was a business. SEO articles for agencies and clients, sponsored posts on other people's sites and on mine, and a parenting blog that turned out to pay. Some of the early SEO work was for Demand Media, and a few of those pieces ran on USA Today. High volume, tight briefs, no byline. Best training I could have asked for.
I got my current job by writing. They hired me to write, and I built it into running content and SEO for five brands.
Here's the work, split by how it was made, because you should know which is which.
My system drafts. I do the research, decide what the page is for and how it's built, set the standard it's held to, and edit every line before it goes live. The thinking and the final copy are mine. The first draft usually isn't.
